While the platform hasn’t specified when these new features will launch, they’ve decided to communicate their benefits in advance. Let’s take this as an opportunity to prepare and incorporate them into our future marketing strategies on social networks.
Why is YouTube focusing on Shorts? Short videos are everywhere, trendy, and in demand across various social networks. In the words of Johanna Voolich, YouTube’s CPO:
“The best thing about Shorts is that watching them is fun. We currently have 70 billion views daily, and the platform is growing.”
Longer Videos with Auto Layout
Although the platform introduced tools last year to facilitate converting regular channel videos into the short Shorts format, they’re now coming with improvements to compete with other social networks. Android will soon feature an Auto layout function that automatically tracks the main object in the video. We can look forward to dynamic panning, zooming, and cropping.
Text to Speech
TikTok, one of the leading social networks, has left its mark on all of us with its specific automated voice that has permeated all spheres of the internet. And it’s coming to YouTube. With the Text to Speech feature, creators can transform text into spoken words. Four different voices will be available. How well this feature will handle Slovak remains to be seen. Let’s wait and see.
Community Engagement with Interactive Sticker
Creators will be able to add an “Add yours” sticker. This will allow viewers to easily engage and add their response to a question or challenge. It looks like a promising interactive element.
Minecraft Mania
With a gamification element in Shorts, it will be possible to record achievements, share them, and compete with friends.
“To celebrate Minecraft’s 15th anniversary, we recently launched two new effects. Minecraft Spring transports you directly into the world of Minecraft, and Minecraft Rush is a new mini-game you can play right in the Shorts player,” the platform states.
AI-Enhanced Captions
An interesting feature is automatically generated captions. The goal will be to create more engaging texts that should appeal to people watching Shorts without sound. The advantage is that they can be edited, customized, and styled using various fonts and colors.
Remix Squared
The ability to remix a remix might sound a bit bizarre, but anyone who’s not behind the times probably understands that transforming existing works is currently scoring points. Remixes are short videos that contain a segment from a public YouTube video or another user’s short video (i.e., the creator hasn’t refused reuse of their content). YouTube already offers various tools for remixing videos, but the new add-on will allow creators to create remixes from existing remixes, not just from long videos or Shorts.
