What makes this partnership different
Unlike standard delivery apps, Deliveroo Express handles the entire backend operation for retailers’ own digital storefronts. Co-op outsources everything from order processing to final delivery while maintaining its brand identity online.
The service launches across hundreds of Co-op locations nationwide, building on a relationship that started seven years ago when Co-op became Deliveroo’s first major grocery partner.
Aggressive expansion plans
The convenience retailer wants to claim 30% of Britain’s quick grocery market – an ambitious target that reflects growing consumer demand for instant shopping. Co-op already reaches 86% of UK residents through various online channels.
“This partnership provides greater flexibility and choice to meet consumer needs for grocery essentials and treats on-demand,” explained Chris Conway, who leads Co-op’s rapid delivery strategy.
Grocery delivery boom continues
Last year, food orders generated 16% of Deliveroo’s total business value, with strong double-digit expansion driven by wider product ranges and better customer education about the service.
For European grocery chains watching this space, Co-op’s approach offers a blueprint for competing with dedicated online players without massive infrastructure investment.
