An anchor text is a hyperlink that is part of the text, usually highlighted in blue. It is clickable and takes the visitor to another part of the page, to a completely different page, or to open a file.

An anchor text is a hyperlink that is part of the text, usually highlighted in blue. It is clickable and takes the visitor to another part of the page, to a completely different page, or to open a file. These links are used by search engines to figure out what the page is about. If there are too many of them in the text, the search engine may flag this as malicious content and penalise the page. It can take many forms, including the same word as the page it links to, branding, a full link to the page, but also various generic labels such as “click here” or links in the form of images. A link that is successful in SEO should meet several conditions, it should be concise and short, relevant and specific to what it links to.
