Edits App Gets Algorithmic Boost
Meta is currently giving videos created in the Edits app a reach advantage through special algorithmic support. Mosseri explained the reasoning behind this boost:
“For now, Edits does help a little bit with reach. It’s not going to be something that’s going to be around forever. Do not just use Edits to try to pass through content; we can check for that. But we are trying to bootstrap the app, and we’ve also found that predicting whether or not you’re going to tap on the ‘Edits’ button is something that we can add to ranking.”
This boost works because Instagram can identify users interested in editing tools and shows them similar content more frequently.
Engagement Myth Debunked
Mosseri’s second tip destroys a widespread myth in e-commerce communities. Brands often force themselves to interact only with content similar to their products, hoping to boost reach.
“One myth I learnt recently about Instagram is that you have to interact with similar content to the content that you create to maximise your reach. That is definitely not the case,” Mosseri stated.
Instagram doesn’t use your personal viewing habits as signals for distributing your content.
The algorithm doesn’t cluster topic-based engagement into groups.
Practical Impact for E-commerce
For online stores, this means greater freedom in content strategy. Social media managers can focus on creating content their customers love, rather than forcing interactions with competitor profiles.
Mosseri advises, “Feel free to engage with the content that you love, then try to create content that your followers love.”
