Young Adults Shopping More on Marketplace
Numbers from last year’s holidays show a clear shift. Facebook recorded a significant increase in searches across categories like fashion, collectibles, and electronics among young adults – specifically during December.
The company is now building on this trend and going further. Holiday Shop brings something traditional e-shops don’t have – local and unique products at reasonable prices, where each item has its own story.
Collections from Known Creators
The launch relies on the recently introduced “collections” feature, which allows creating groups of products and sharing them with friends. In the Holiday Shop, you’ll find selections from six content creators:
- iJustine compiled a collection of nostalgic tech
- Tay Beep Boop picked funky and unexpected items
- April Lockhart focused on vintage fashion
- Alex offers sports gifts
- Holderness Family prepared kids’ products
- FLIPPED handles holiday decorations
Each collection targets a specific group of people on your list – from tech enthusiasts to retro-style fans.

How to Access It
Using it is simple:
- Open the Facebook app
- Go to Marketplace
- Click the magnifying glass, and search “Holiday Shop”. If it doesn’t show up, check if you have the latest app version.
The platform is trying to compete with traditional marketplaces by putting authenticity and the community aspect of shopping front and centre. Instead of mega-stores, you’re buying from real people in your area.
What This Means for E-commerce
The Holiday Shop launch follows Facebook’s recent introduction of the collections feature, which lets users group and share Marketplace listings. By adding influencer-curated collections during peak shopping season, the platform is expanding beyond its traditional peer-to-peer sales model.
The timing, a December launch targeting young adult shoppers who already showed increased interest in fashion, collectibles, and electronics last holiday season – suggests Facebook sees potential in positioning Marketplace as a gifting destination.
