Google Tests Messaging Directly From YouTube Ads
One of the new features aims to shorten the distance between seeing an advertisement and contacting the company behind it.
Google is testing ways for viewers to start conversations with brands on messaging apps directly from Demand Gen ads on YouTube. The company positions the feature as a way of moving people showing stronger purchase intent closer to taking action.
Google has not provided further details in the announcement about which messaging services will be supported or when the feature will become more widely available.
For retailers and other online businesses, the test is worth watching because it introduces another possible route from YouTube discovery to direct customer interaction. Instead of requiring someone to click through to another destination before making contact, the conversation could begin from the ad itself.
Travel Ads Get Real-Time Offers and Local Activities
The August release also extends Demand Gen’s capabilities for travel advertisers.
Google says campaigns can now surface local activities, events and real-time offers to travellers. Hotel advertising is also being personalised so that relevant properties can be shown to the right audiences.
Rather than relying only on a fixed creative promoting a destination or property, advertisers can surface more timely information, including local activities, events and real-time offers.
The update is particularly relevant for hotels and travel businesses using YouTube as a discovery channel.
Video Production Moves Further Inside Google Ads
Creative production is another area where Google is reducing the number of steps advertisers need to handle outside its advertising tools.
Multimodal Video Creation in Asset Studio is now generally available. Advertisers can move from storyboarding to creating both horizontal and vertical video assets within one workflow, allowing the resulting creative to appear across Demand Gen inventory.
For e-commerce teams running campaigns across different YouTube placements, the practical point is straightforward – campaigns may need creative suited to different formats and screens.
Bringing more of that production into Asset Studio could reduce some of the work involved in preparing those variants.
Taken together, the August updates show Google pushing more of the advertising process into Demand Gen, from creating video assets to turning viewer interest into direct contact. For advertisers, the trade-off is familiar, less manual work, but greater reliance on Google’s own tools and automation.
