From Classifieds To Full Marketplace
Gumtree is entering the ring with established players like eBay and Vinted. The new Delivery on Gumtree feature will launch in selected categories, including clothing, footwear, baby & kids items, and accessories during 2025. A wider rollout across more categories will follow in 2026.
Until now, users were limited to local meetups and in-person collection. For the first time in 25 years, sellers will be able to reach buyers across the entire country with integrated payments and delivery.
How It Will Work In Practice
The system is designed to be straightforward. When creating a listing, sellers will select the parcel size, and buyers will automatically see and pay delivery costs at checkout. After a sale, sellers receive a QR code or printable label for dispatch through the partner courier service.
Payments are secured through a payment provider, and funds are held until delivery is confirmed. Buyers get protection in case items don’t arrive or don’t match the description.
What This Means For The Market
Gumtree already offers business features in automotive, property, and recruitment. This move suggests the platform is preparing to enter the B2C segment as well – which could significantly shake up British e-commerce.
For sellers, it means wider reach without having to sort out logistics themselves. Built-in tracking and buyer protection could boost trust and therefore conversions.
The question remains how existing players like Vinted or Facebook Marketplace will respond to this competition. Gumtree has the advantage of a strong brand and established user base in the UK.
