Meta Expands Affiliate Program For Reels Creators

Meta announced an expansion of its affiliate program that will allow creators to add affiliate links directly to Reels and earn commissions from sales. The new self-serve system lets creators choose products from participating brands and promote them in their videos.

Creators Can Select Products Directly

The new tool is available in the Professional Dashboard under Monetisation → Affiliate Partnerships. Creators who are part of Meta’s professional programme can browse a catalogue of brands and products that match their content.

Once a product is selected, creators can insert an affiliate link into their Reels. If viewers purchase through that link, the creator earns a commission paid by the brand.

According to Meta, the catalogue already includes thousands of products, with brands such as Amazon and Shopee among the early participants.

Affiliate Content Must Be Labelled

Meta clarified that any content containing affiliate links will be treated as branded content. Videos therefore need to include the Paid Partnership label, although creators do not need to tag a specific brand partner.

Brands will also retain some control. If they feel a creator or a piece of content does not fit their brand, they will have the option to remove the affiliate link.

New Opportunities For Social Commerce

Meta already updated the appearance of affiliate links in Reels in December 2024 to make them more visible to viewers. The new self-serve programme builds on that update by simplifying how creators discover products to promote.

For e-commerce brands, the model opens another channel for product promotion without negotiating individual influencer deals. By making products available inside the affiliate catalogue, brands can tap into the reach of Reels creators.

For creators, the system introduces a more direct way to monetise short-form video content by earning commissions from purchases generated through their videos.
