Kaufland Discontinues FBK, Prepares New Logistics Solution

The German online marketplace Kaufland Global Marketplace will no longer offer the Fulfilled by Kaufland (FBK) service. The service will remain available until February 28, 2025, after launching a year ago with expansive plans and reasonable costs. After this date, all inventory will be returned to selling partners at no additional expense.

Kaufland’s New Strategic Direction

This decision is part of a broader strategic shift related to the company’s growing international presence.

“We have decided to replace Fulfillment by Kaufland with new logistics services in the area of cross-border fulfillment,” Kaufland stated. The new services are designed to better meet the needs of merchants and the conditions of international e-commerce with the aim of fostering more sustainable global growth.

From FBK to Multi-Channel Fulfillment System

Instead of a standardized fulfillment solution, Kaufland is developing a flexible modular system. This will include an automated method for handling shipping and return labels as well as a multi-channel fulfillment service.

An important innovation of the new system is its capacity to process orders from outside sales channels, including the Kaufland platform and sellers’ own e-commerce websites and external marketplaces.

Impact on Sellers and the Market

The discontinuation of the service may initially cause some disruption for sellers who have relied on FBK. Kaufland’s new cross-border fulfillment services, however, are expected to offer more flexibility and better meet the needs of international e-commerce.

This tactical shift may benefit retailers by increasing sales and market presence while also enhancing the overall sustainability and effectiveness of logistics operations.

The Future of the Kaufland Global Marketplace

As Kaufland grows its marketplace across Europe, it will need to implement new logistics services to support its growth strategy. The development of the modular system will allow merchants to customize their fulfillment options, potentially increasing the number of sellers on the platform.

Additionally, Kaufland’s ability to handle orders from multiple sales channels will make it a more competitive player in the European e-commerce market.
