TikTok Shop, which already operates in several Asian countries, the UK and the US, is planning further expansion into Europe and Mexico. Although news of the expansion is not official, initial information was carried by the South China Morning Post and online media outlet Ecommerce News cited other anonymous sources. In addition, TikTok has begun inviting merchants in Germany, France, Italy and Spain for beta testing.

The launch is expected this summer.

In an effort to increase its profits, it is a logical step for social media companies to create an e-commerce platform. By doing so, they strengthen their position in the digital ecosystem and contribute to the growth of online commerce. The popularity and high traffic is playing into TikTok’s hands, as we have already reported in several articles.

Despite initial delays caused by disappointing results in the UK, TikTok Shop is trying its luck elsewhere. With the new additions, the platform will now operate in 13 countries. It aims to reach $50 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) this year.
