YouTube Introduces Three New Features

YouTube has announced three significant updates aimed at refining interactions between creators and fans, making global content more accessible, and offering new ways to respond to comments. Here's an overview of these new features.

Reply with Voice

YouTube is experimenting with voice replies, a feature designed to add a personal touch to creator-fan interactions. Creators will be able to respond to comments using voice messages. The feature is currently being tested with a small group of creators in the US through the YouTube iOS app. Wider availability will depend on feedback.

Creators who are part of the test group can click the sound wave icon next to a comment, record a voice reply, and post it directly in the comments section.

Voice replies introduce a new communication method that’s faster and more personal than traditional text responses. They allow creators to add a human dimension to fan interactions, strengthening the sense of closeness and authenticity.

Respond with YouTube Shorts

Another original way to react to video comments is by responding with Shorts. This feature opens up space for more creative responses that can better engage viewers and increase their involvement.

When creators reply to a comment, they can simply record a short video using the Shorts camera. This video will automatically appear directly in the comments section under the original video, enriching the interaction with a new visual dimension. In a sense, this imitates TikTok replies.

Dynamic and visually engaging responses particularly appeal to followers from younger generations.

Break Language Barriers with Auto-Dubbing

YouTube has decided to make content as accessible as possible to a global audience. With auto-dubbing, they might actually achieve this. This tool can automatically create dubbing in various languages, making selected videos accessible to an even wider audience.

This feature is currently available to hundreds of thousands of channels in the YouTube Partner Program that specialise in educational and informational content.

However, there are plans to expand it to other types of content in the near future to reach an even broader creator community. There are certain language limitations. English content can be automatically dubbed into French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. Videos in these languages can be dubbed into English.

In collaboration with Google DeepMind and Google Translate, work is ongoing to improve this feature, including the possibility of “expressive speech” that better captures tone and emotions.

For now, creators have the option to check and manage their dubbed videos in YouTube Studio to ensure quality and accuracy before publishing.

What These Updates Mean for Creators and Viewers

These three updates present opportunities for both creators and brands. Marketers gain a new tool to strengthen their brand and deepen relationships with their audience.

Voice replies will be particularly appreciated by creators and brands built around specific individuals. They emphasise authentic communication that can build customer trust and loyalty.

Responses through Shorts open doors to creative interaction that increases visibility and creates opportunities for viral content. Finally, auto-dubbing is a tool that removes language barriers and enables global reach with minimal additional costs.
